Jersey is a well-established financial centre, combining political and economical stability with a sophisticated legal system. Highly regarded in areas of transparency and compliance, Jersey is a G20 white list approved jurisdiction and an associate member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

 

Jersey’s central time zone aligns with the opening of business in the USA and the closing of business in China and India. It has close proximity to Europe but has independence from the European Union. As such, Jersey is a major conduit for international capital flows, with its tax neutrality - providing fiscally efficient cross-border investment.

 

The Jersey finance industry employs a quarter of the local workforce and has developed a range of products and services that competing jurisdictions find difficult to match.

Jersey’s value to Africa

Jersey has also developed a network of tax information exchange agreements with various jurisdictions including South Africa and shortly Kenya. Double taxation agreement negotiations are progressing with Botswana, Ghana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Nigeria, Seychelles, Swaziland and Zambia.

 

In addition, the Jersey Financial Services Commission has agreed a memorandum of understanding with the Bank Supervision Department of the South African Reserve Bank and the Financial Board of the Republic of South Africa.
